Well, folks, I am actually doing this, only 6 more to go.  (I don't know how I will be able to stop at 30, seriously.) As you read this post, and meet Twinkle , I will be in Washington State a few days hanging with my daughter. More cats next week! CAT #24 Twinkle acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 inches 100% recycled heavy paper Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! And leave a COMMENT while you are at it. ; ) ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #23 The Optimist

As it turns out, a small flurry of people unsubscribed from my mailing list over the last couple of days. It's ok. I knew there was risk involved. As an artist I first and foremost want to bring Beauty (and smiles and hope) into the world, knit it back into the fabric of our earth, as a countermeasure to how much rape and pillage, injustice, thoughtlessness, ill intent, even horror there is here in our land. And if you don't know this about me, I am quite the optimist! Yet once in awhile, I feel compelled to make a statement, as I did with my NO NO NO Cat and No Grabbing This Pussy . I have no regrets. But it is in my nature not to want to offend, nor to hurt anyone....and this conflict weighs heavily. These are unique and trying times....and I made my choice. If in some teeny way my creativity can occasionally be used for (in my perspective) Awakening those who are asleep or deluded into thinking this Administration won't alter the very core of our democracy, I c...

PAINTING: CAT #19 Say It Ain't So...

CAT #19 Say It Ain't So acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 in. 100% recycled heavy paper I had to do it, I am still behind because I post at day's end, and my emails don't go out til 6am next day. So I hope this is the last time that two cats go out on same day. But come Friday and Saturday you will see why I had to catch up. Ooooh, was that a teaser? Master Shifu was my model and though a lovely Siamese type coloring in real life, mine is, well, blues and greens! Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #18 Freddy A-Stare

CAT #18  Freddy A-Stare acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 in. 100% recycled heavy paper I may have combined a couple of my neighborhood kitties for this inspiration.  (Tessah's Halle and Greg's Burton ).... you know me...creative license is the air I breathe! I start out by looking at a reference photo but before long I just paint....and the kitty itself tells me what to do. LOL and True! Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #17 Oh My Heart

CAT #17 Oh My Heart acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 in. 100% recycled heavy paper Big, white, couch potato, gorgeous, knows it.....and just how I love my cats! Will this one please manifest?? (oh my heart.) And here's a collage of my first 9... Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #16 Sweetie Pie

I had to catch up with the date (remember that cat painting I renumbered #8a? well, that made me behind). So here are two posts in one day....what??????? CAT #16 Sweetie Pie acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 in. 100% recycled heavy paper More color play and ohmygosh, this one is a sweetie pie, alright. Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #15 Boom Boom Boomerang

CAT #15 Boom Boom Boomerang acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 in. 100% recycled heavy paper Yep, no holds barred colorful! Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #14 Misty Lu

CAT #14 Misty Lu acrylic and charcoal, mixed media 12 x 12 in. 100% recycled heavy paper Playing with colors...and these are oddish indeed, but kinda cool at the same time. And this little kitty is so cutely cross-eyed, don't you think? Feeling good, again, and I credit qigong for boosting my immune system. Day 4 and I am very much on the mend from this dreaded cold. Thanks for the well wishes. Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #13 Cat with Heart

Excedrin, Coffee relieved the headache and after dozing off and on for boring hours I got to my art desk which was a chaotic mess cleaned it up a bit squeezed out a fresh palette and got #13 - #16 done. That always feels so good... to be ahead a few days. CAT #13 12 x 12 in. acrylic and charcoal 100% recycled heavy paper This cutie is based on a neighbor's cat, Patches. A beautiful calico, but what struck me the most is the very distinctive heart on her forehead. Isn't that a marvel? Each kitty soooo special. Meow.  Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #12 Big Boy

Well, well, well... Look at this kitty for a bit, and you may notice (as I did but it took me a couple of days) that it has Human Eyes! (I did add a bit of lighter blue to the whites...but can't see it in this image) What a hoot, eh? I have had cats before that were clearly more human than cat, so perhaps that is what is coming through here. LOL. CAT #12 acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 in. 100% recycleable heavy paper I caught that dang cold going around and I no longer have a backlog of cat paintings done to upload....so tomorrow I get to it, or if I am couched, you will all have to wait a day or two til I rally. I WILL finish all 30. Promise! AND another good reason I am glad I am not offering these for sale at this point is that I was just contacted by a delightful gallery to do a show of all these, with prints available, at end of Feb/early March. Cool beans, eh? Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #11 Princess

I am not a great lover of the yellow - violet complementary pairing. So I made myself use it!  That's what these challenges are so great for...keep stretching beyond what's familiar, and comfortable and preferred. CAT #11 Princess acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 in. 100% recycled heavy paper Omgosh, how cute is this little kitty? I ended up just loving the yellow-violet dyad. Who knew! So here's CAT #11 on day 12, that renaming of 8a threw me off a day. Oh well, I still continue to go for a full 30 Cats. Stand by... Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #10 - Stormy Kitty

CAT #10 Stormy Kitty acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 in. 100% recycled heavy paper Initially this little kitty had a pretty blue background, but I was working on her when the storm hit with ferocity (now a few days ago), so I decided to integrate that into the painting. And added strong rain drops too. That's what I absolutely crazily love about art, creative license!  Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #9 Greenbay

Well, I successfully and effortlessly got off of jury duty. After all, flash flood watches were in force all day. Piece of cake, called in, they rescheduled me for end of June. Phew! CAT #9 Greenbay acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 inches 100% recycled heavy paper This one is based loosely on my FiFiona....and I did something wild with the color this go-round. Greens and orange, and a smidge of my all-time fave, blue-green. Here are my gorgeous rescue kitties. Blossom is now 10 and FiFi 7.  Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #8a Arnold

Well, I didn't know whether to count this one or not. So rather than CAT #9 I'm renaming it CAT #8a.  It is smaller than the others, and just a plaything really. But here he is. I am called to jury duty tomorrow but was really planning on painting all day. So I will get the next kitties up soon!  (I am really hoping the downpour and second storm forecasted tonite and tomorrow will PREVENT me from getting to the courthouse tomorrow morning. LOL) CAT #8a Arnold 8 x 8 inches acrylic and charcoal, acrylic paint pen 100% recycled heavy paper SOLD  My goal here was just to doodle and play with color. I also took out my white paint pen and worked on making the cat standout from similarly colored and valued background. I like green and purple together, hmmmmm.....Hope you like him! (her?) Good News - another batch of 12 x 12 supports arrived today. Gotta love Amazon. I can now finish this 30 cat series all in 12 x 12 size. Excited about that. Be Creative. I...

PAINTING: CAT #8 Annie Bannie Bo Bannie

Well, last night and today.....no Fizzling storm at all, this was scary FIERCE! The pineapple express returned with a vengeance. Flooding everywhere (not in homes, thank God) but those flash floods that happen almost instantaneously when the creek and laguna are full are a bit unnerving. But I did manage today, after the power went back on, to paint Cats #10 - 12. But you'll have to wait for them, wink. Here's #8 CAT #8 Annie Bannie Bo Bannie acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 inches 100% recycled heavy paper As you can see, I was on an orange vs blue/green kick here. As they are complementary colors, they are a bit jumpy together but fun. So another kitty cat done. Enjoy. Oh yeah, here's what my town of Rohnert Park looked like earlier today. Why people drive in these conditions is beyond my comprehending! Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTINGS: CAT #7 Shyster

I didn't paint today or much but the trick of doing these daily challenges is to paint a few on a day you are able to number every one then post - so it LOOKS like you paint them daily. There you go, no secrets from me! CAT #7 Shyster acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 inches 100% recycled heavy paper Today i hunkered down for an alleged historical storm and well fizzle but tonight more rain is predicted. We will see.... Meanwhile, made a HUGE pot of Fix Whatever Ails You Soup the secret? red chili pepper flakes and chipotle chili powder mixed in with countless veggies and pints of broth. two kinds of beans and at the end right before serving a whole lemon squeezed and fresh cilantro oh just yum. and healthy to boot. Truth be told, I am not much of a cook i know how just would rather paint than cook but I CAN i mean REALLY CAN serve up a pot of delish soup. Smile. Heres my sweet Blossom Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul...

PAINTING: CAT #6 You're Kidding!

BTW - I LOVE YOUR COMMENTS. But for some of you the commenting on this post from reading it in your email is confusing. So let me just note here that you click the link at bottom of email post in order to go to my webpage  then you simply SCROLL DOWN to the comment box. ; ) CAT #6 You're Kidding acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 in. 100% recycleable heavy chipboard Here's a wide-eyed, and of course colorful, kitty cat for you all! I may or may not be posting over the weekend as we are due a whopper of a storm. We'll see. Meanwhile I went to my orthopedic surgeon today and got a pass....so well recovered from broken wrist that I don't need physical therapy. I told her that the broken wrist recovery (after the first several omg so painful days) was a piece of cake after the thumb joint replacement. That took 9+ months. (And I have one more to go. ugh.) Seriously! Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #5 You're Mine

CAT #5 You're Mine acrylic and charcoal 12" x 12" 100% recycled clean board I am not a great lover of purple so I wanted to try a combination of colors that included this. And you know what? I like it! Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #4 GlamourPuss

Hi folks, Thanks for all the lovely feedback on yesterday's "honesty" post. Wow. You all blow me away. CAT #4 GlamourPuss acrylic and charcoal 12 x 12 " 100% recycled heavy paper (yeah!) This little meow furry one is all sorts of broken colors. I'm practicing different brushstrokes, still trying to keep it loose, but adding more detail too. This is all play....and I'm enjoying it. Hope you are, too. I can't even imagine what #30 will look like as each day I am trying to do something a bit different. All fun! By the way, I repainted CAT #1 if you want to take a peek . I have a hard time stopping futzing around. NOTE: I've added a new  30 Cats  category...under  Paintings . See graphic below as to how to find that new link. This will grow.......til there are 30 cats! Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #3 - Dazzler - In All Honesty

This past year I have spoken a bit about but perhaps i haven't spoken forthrightly about... and that is my creative journey which to say the least has been a challenge now that I am painting again and feeling GOOD about what I am painting I can admit to you all This past year not being able to paint at least well enough to please my soul was nothing short of disheartening to say devastating is perhaps hyperbolic and as I was contending with other matters at hand HAND!! oh yeah, two surgeries on my dominant hand. But 2016 was the year of unfinished paintings. it's not that i didn't paint i just never got around to finishing, thus posting and i DID paint some good paintings truly i did but overall just feeling a shift and not knowing where it was leading... i have learned to breathe thru these times trust that in the mystery the path will unfold the Light will shine once again wait for it... But nonetheless while I was going t...

PAINTING: CAT #2 - Who Owns Whom?

Today was a wonderful day as I got to see and paint with all my artist pals over at Riley Street. Classes are back this week after over a month's break. So good to see everyone. Good thing I painted two kitties last night, so here's #2. Cat #2 Who Owns Whom? Acrylic and charcoal on heavy chipboard 12 x 12 inches Contact me if interested....at this point, just painting 30 paintings in 30 days is a biggie for me. May offer them for sale at month's end. Or if i get around to pricing them in the meantime.  I used to be so prolific, but this last year, not so much. Lots of fun challenging myself in this way again. Oh yeah, I am doing this 30 in 30 Challenge thru Leslie Saeta's blog . It's not too late to join in.... Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul! ~Joanie

PAINTING: CAT #1 - You Love Me, Right? 30 paintings in 30 days

Don't ask me why, I just wanted to make some changes, add more color, reshape. It's what I do. And this is a "no rules - all permission" project. CAT #1 You Love Me, Right? 12 x 12 on heavy board acrylic and charcoal below - original Cat #1 I may or may not be posting prices, but if you are interested just contact me. I didn't really think I would do it, then here I am doing it!  Hope I can last the month. LOL. I am hoping to get back in to regularly posting this year. What a year 2016. Sayonara!
