June Theme: Painting our Ancestors
Friday, May 24, 2024
Well, really we will be combining a few things this coming month of June.
Using all our newly acquired and well-practiced color mixing, with our beautiful array of NEUTRALS we will be painting vintage folks, pets, even houses. Something for everyone.
This dear woman is an ancestor of mine but I haven't a clue who she is. My aunt had this photo and a few others in her photo box. Forever a mystery - but I love her! And that happened AFTER I painted her. I was seriously going to toss the photo when I couldn't identify her. There is truly something magical about painting ones own ancestors.
If you have pics of ancestors, perfect! If not, old family homes or even your lineage of furry friends, perhaps, will inspire you.
And there are always old family pics easy to pick up at consignment and antique shops for a song. Or ask a friend for permission to paint some of their ancestors.
My examples here were not painted in neutrals....as I was just playing around and didn't know yet that this would turn into a Theme for class.
Another unknown ancestor of mine.
But my thoughts are we will build our subject with neutrals then try a few diff ways to layer color on top.
And below is just a vintage photo I found online.....not a relative. But fun to paint nonetheless.
Come join us for June! We will review how to paint a face, learn some key tips for getting likeness but all without getting fussy! It's the joy of painting, experimenting and gaining skills that are the most inspiring.
Online Art Classes via Zoom, Mon and Wed 10 to noon California time. And Videos are recorded each week for those who can't attend at class times. Just shoot me your painting via email at weeks end for personalized feedback.
If you enjoyed this post, please share it with an artsy friend.
Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul!
