Painting a Thrift Store Purse - Awesome DIY Makeover
Tuesday, May 5, 2015
I love a creative project and I love upcycling. I haven’t really told you too much yet, but I am leaving on a very cool vacation in a matter of weeks. And there is so much pre-trip stuff to do, and stuff to buy and one of them was getting a good carry on purse that will hold my tablet, my art supplies, wallet, passport, camera….boarding tickets and all that stuff. So, I found a purse at Goodwill (love that store) and because it had so many interesting little faux snakeskin designs/shapes, OF COURSE i had to make a new project for myself. And that is, spiff up this beauty with the colors of a map. Yep, cool pale blues and greens, with a hint of yellow, because after all, there must be a smidge of WARM with all those COOLS. See how practical knowing some color theory can be? Yes, oh Yes. Can’t know too much about color. C’est Impossible!
I know it doesn’t look like much yet….I’ve only just begun, and these little square shapes will need 2-3 coats each easily, but stay tuned for the finished piece….long way to go! I need to keep some black all around the color shapes so the black is still the uniting background. Anyhoo, I’m figuring it out as I go. I needed a new project, mind you, like a hole in my head. But oh we creatives are a bit on the nutsy side. LOL.
COMPLETED:
This took a minimum of four layers to get a nice opaque color spot. This purse was my carry-on bag when I went to Spain summer 2015 and boy oh boy, did I get a lot of compliments! Then of course I had to tell everyone who asked that I paid a whopping $12.95 for my treasure! (There were countless hours of labor, of course. But all fun!)

Meanwhile, here’s my purse project. It’s vinyl I am pretty sure, but really lovely quality.
