Why I Don't Like Painting in Art Journals
Friday, June 12, 2015
I am ecstatic to be back in my own home, and embraced by my art studio and its abundant supplies – it’s bliss. (Except I came back with a whopping bronchial infection, bummer.) And with all those Spanish inspirations, omg, I don’t even know where to begin. But meanwhile, just to be in the creative process of painting again, here are a few faces that I started either on the trip and finished at home, or created these past few mornings. There’s a new gal I find myself painting, with a rose in her hair, and I kinda wonder how many ways I can paint her??? Hmmm, I didn’t have my glasses on when I was looking at Velasquez’ infanta and for some reason thought she had a rose in her hair, (she doesn’t, it’s more like a great big red feather!) but perhaps this is my version. As I mentioned in my Barcelona post after visiting the Picasso Museum, the infanta (las meninas) series….i swooned!
But first, why I don’t like painting in a journal….
The truth is I don’t know what I am doing with faces at moment, but I’m not letting that stop me from experimenting. When I sense a shift happening, I just keep playing til I hit on what I am trying to express. So it goes….
