as much as I love Golden products, liquitex are my first choice – for price and color selection. Creamy! | |
| Golden Heavy Body Acrylic Paints | amazingly potent paints, powerful pigments, pricey but excellent. | |
| Winsor Newton Artist Acrylics | i just bought some Winsor Newton Professional Acrylics because I hear that they don’t color shift (which is annoying to say the least…meaning that acrylics dry darker.) I’ll review these in a post when i crack them open…am excited to try them. | |
| Liquitex Mediums Golden Mediums Winsor Newton – to go with their new non-color shifting artist acrylics |
Liquitex prices are better, and the product is excellent. i often mix the gloss and matte to get the perfect sheen. i can’t do without either of the mediums. I use both Liquitex and Golden mediums, usually checking sale prices for the best deal.I simply can’t paint without it, mix your paint with it, top layer your painting, reduces sheen, and i cover paper, cardboard, etc….and it becomes archival. I use both Liquitex and Golden mediums. |

| GAC 900 | if you want to paint tshirts (as I did with my granddaughter) or any fabric, all you do is mix any of your acrylic paint with this GAC900 and voila, fabric paint! | |
| Liquitex brushes | i want everyone of them! | |

Winsor & Newton Artisan | I buy these in 200ml tubes…my 5-7 fave colors. They are a bit stiff, but I use some walnut alkyd (fast-drying) and walnut oil (slow drying) for the different layers. Fat over lean! |
| Holbein DUO | heavily pigmented which is great, but require medium as they are quite thick. | |
| M Graham Walnut Alkyd and Walnut Oil | these are the only mediums I use… | |
| Dorland’s Wax | except for this, when i want buttercream frosting consistency and thicker texture. | |
| DaVinci Acryl synthetic brushes | the best brushes ever! They are not quite as stiff as boar bristle, but stiff enough to do the job of a bristle brush, and no animals were hurt in the process! I order the filberts and the flats mostly. | |

Daniel Smith | colors to drool over, very nice paint |
| Schmincke | early on i treated myself to a 24 full pan set of these. oh my, they last and last, the pigments are amazing, and using them makes me feel rich and old european! : ) | |
| Caran D’Ache Watercolor Pencils | i have a set of 120, now how’s that for excessive. But i love them! And use them to touch up many of my watercolor / gouache paintings when they need that wee bit of something before being declared finished. | |

Schmincke Gouache | the rolls royce of gouache (and priced accordingly), no contest, rewettable in a palette. |
| M Graham gouache | excellent, made with honey, stays moist in palette, rewettable. great colors, rich. | |
| Holbein | fab colors, but they crack. fast. So only use them fresh from the tube. | |

Higgins Ink | So smooth, just flows beautifully. Dip pens are great fun. Black and white are my faves, but they have some other gorgeous drawing inks, try them out. |
| India Ink | I don’t have a favorite brand, just plain old india ink. Black as can be, goopy, sometimes thick, but just divine! I use my dip pens for this, and sometimes my sticks. | |
| Acrylic Inks | I don’t use these as often as “real” ink, because they dry too fast. But very handy is you need to paint or do a wash over them. I generally save my ink work for the end of a painting, so this isn’t as much an issue. |

Hi Joanie, I observe some paintings have ink, I assume that’s a permanent colourfast waterproof ink equal in quality to all the other medium that you use.
Hi Albert, thanks for writing about my ink work. I have a variety of lovely inks, but mostly use Higgins waterproof drawing or calligraphy inks, as the flow is fantastic. Occasionally use acrylic inks, such as FW brand, and always on my shelves is good old black black black india ink. Can’t live without it. There are a few others I try out here and there, but the ones above are my standards. Oh yeah, in my fountain pens which I use for drawing Noodlers ink is awesome.
