Notecards, at last!

I finally did it….well, getting ready for the Home Show this weekend got me going on lots of fronts. But notecards is just one of them, and because I can’t seem to do anything just normal-regular, I had to go and figure out how to offer handmade cooler than jellybeans envelopes. Here are the results of my brainstorm – hope you like them. Gosh, anyone can now afford and share my art at this price.
: ) Thank you all for inspiring me!
Hop over here to see all the notecards!
My Art in Presence Magazine
Wow, am I excited….the publishers of Presence magazine requested to publish one of my gouache and ink sketches Haiku Art Journal pieces for an upcoming issue.
I’ll post the piece when it is published. A goal of mine has been to get my art in magazines, so this was a blessing indeed.
Hollywood Glamour #1 – original acrylic, 9″x6″, $90
I watched a wonderful movie tonight, Bill Cunningham, New York. What an extraordinary, humble, modest, and brilliant man this Bill C. (He’s a fashion photographer for the New York Times.) At one point later on in the movie, the interviewer asks Bill about his faith…..it is truly a breath-stopping moment. You’ll have to watch it for yourself. (Now how’s that for a teaser!) Talk about single-mindedness and dedication to one’s craft, well, I can’t think of anyone who exemplifies this more than Bill. Not at the moment anyway, since I’m still so deeply moved by his life, by learning of him, and seeing, and hearing him in action. The movie is profoundly moving and authentic. Though a true artistic eccentric, his kindness shines through for all people from the highest echelon of society to the most ordinary person on the streets of New York, his beloved city.
“He Who Seeks Beauty Will Find It” ~ Bill Cunningham
Why talk about this? Because I have come to believe that we artists, and not just those of us that wield a brush, but artists of all stripes, are a tribe….we seek beauty, and hopefully through our art, we counter in some way the horrible, the bad, the evil in the world. It is a rare privilege to be a Beauty-Maker, to reveal beauty where it is not always found, and bring it to the forefront.
So in this post I share one of three new Hollywood Glamour Gals…Beauty comes in many forms. I like to think that if Bill saw some everyday woman walking down the street with this hat on, he would take her picture!

PS – I finished the installation at Cookie’s Coffee Shop today with the help of two extraordinary friends and fellow artists, Milagros and Emma. Thank you girls, I would not have been able to do it myself! The place looks great…and hope to have some pics or a small video to share soon. Sure did learn a lot. Most importantly, take strong tape, not just masking tape, but something stronger to hold all those title/price tags on the wall!
New Exhibit opens Oct 10th
I’ve never done this before, so color me excited! (Exhausted, too!)
And wouldn’t you know, after I printed these postcards, the new management changed the name of the cafe! Formerly Louie’s Cafe, now it’s Cookie’s Coffee Shop!

New Friends
Here you go, fellow artists, a new ART TIP from moi!
I tried the lavender before on my oil palette and found it counteracted the strong smell of the oil paints.
But here I tried it on the moist sponges to make it smell nice, only to find an additional bonus of the paints lasting really really long. Now anyone who uses acrylic paints knows that long-lasting miosiness is not common. I live in dry warm Northern California and I tell you two days is usually max, these paints have been in there over a week and a half or longer and still very usable and moist, not a skin forming over them. Wow! Who knows, it could just be the moist sponges i keep in there (dollar store – cut in half) but I do think the lavender is offering some effect, and at the very least it will cut down on mold as I believe one of its properties is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal.
I love cookie sheets, forget those masterson palettes, for me they are just annoying wrestling matches. But cookie sheets with lids, ah…just love them.
UPDATE: Unbelievable how long my acrylic paints are staying completely moist….like 2.5 weeks and counting. What a joy to come down to my art table in the morning, after days away (been busy exhibiting!) and sit right down and paint. Awesome. There’s something too this, I swear. : )

Kooky and cute as can be. Kind of thinking about things….Silly me, when I opened up a new bottle of wine (come on, a girl’s got to relax!) I saved the little round metal label and affixed her to Kooky, decided to paint over it, and then added the custom painted dictionary paper. Voila – a kooky headpiece!
A Bit Kooky is available on my Notecards here.
