A Little DIY Project: Before and After Hassock

The DIY Thrift Store Project - September 2018

I am tall
My feet hang off my part of the couch
when I am laying down
So I thought I would make a custom hassock
or ottoman
or whatever other names it goes by
But I lucked out and saw this

Straight from a teenagers room, right?

But this was the vision,
Neutral, quietly elegant
yet with a touch of whimsy
let's just call it "Joanie-style"

Step by Step, here we go:

I was hoping 3 coats would do it, but it took 4.
That pink was obstinate about showing through.

On to the buttons, the Whimsy Factor:

At first I tried taping around each button
not happening
then out came my hole punch
and little squares of paper

And here are the colors around my living room
that i pulled my swatches from
typically eclectic

Let's paint those buttons:

When all dry, a knife was needed to carefully separate the paper from the button before removing.

So what do you think? Try it, Chalk Paint...I have had LOTS of success with Home Decor by Folk Art. So many folks use Annie Sloan, but it's on the pricey side. And Home Decor is like $8 a bottle though with a coupon I paid $3.49, and stretches farther than one expects. This project took 3/4 of a bottle. And I only paid $3.49 for the hassock (got 50% off) so the whole project was a cool breezy 7 bucks!

The only thing left to do is give it a good waxing. Still on the To Do List! Meanwhile,

What's your next DIY project?

Be Creative. It's Good for the Soul!

And leave a COMMENT while you are at it. ; )
Blessings, Joanie
