I’ve been studying Mark Rothko’s color theory just a bit, and thought, hmmm, what if I just made a checkerboard pattern and limited palette…what would happen? So, with the intention of mixing more subtle colors better, this painting emerged. And yes, we Californian’s are spoiled with incredible weather, but it’s been in the 30s at nites…so yes, it’s COLD!

NOTE: This painting looks better in the “real” – I photographed it maybe 5 times and it always seems to come out a bit blurry. Now it does have nice soft edges, but something is just missing in the photo. I really love how this turned out. A breakthrough, methinks. Now let’s see if I can get the other seasons to cooperate….
