JOURNAL: My NEW Haiku Art Journal

Previous Post | Next Post

Haiku Art Journal of contemporary artist Joanie SpringerI’ve been keeping a new journal since June 1, 2011…..and have been having so much fun and insightful moments with it, I thought I would share it on my art blog here.

First off, I keep sacred moments in it, discovering God’s voice in the every day objects that surround me.

I record favorite people and moments.

All with a simple sketch using my Pentel Pocket Brush Pen, an old old book, pages coated with either clear gesso, white gesso, or absorbent ground (Golden) and my trusty gouache palette of Schmincke and M Grahams paints mostly.  A few Holbeins and other brands mixed in.

Forgive my clumsy Haiku….I know in the traditional sense that Haiku is a lovely and fairly complicated art form.  I’m using it in the most basic way – merely 5 – 7 – 5 syllables in three lines, and no art form!  Just whatever quickly comes off my tongue and brush, and there it stays.  It’s all part of a daily spiritual practice for essence, minimalism, to get at what is REALLY important.

And though Christ has called me, please don’t be offended if that is not your spiritual resonance, as I encourage you to find your own path to the Divine.

This Haiku Art Journal is my outlet for allowing my Creative and Spiritual inspirations to merge. Hope you derive some inspiration from it.

Have a blessed day,

Joanie

The books gets pretty fat after you add your sketches.
