RESOURCES THAT INSPIRE
- Everything by Danny Gregory – blog and books (visit www.dannygregory.com)
- Everything by Cathy “Kate” Johnson (visit her tips here www.cathyjohnson.info/tips.html)and she teaches online courses that are fantastic, check them out!
- The inimitable Robert Burridge (www.robertburridge.com) Sign up for his Artsy News.
- The Palette Magazine – order it at CheapJoes.com. I seldom order or buy any other art magazines anymore because compared to this no-ads all information magazine, well, I don’t need to.
IDEAS THAT HAVE INSPIRED ME
- Study one artist…..delve into their work. How do they render light and dark, what color palettes do they use, how do their paintings make you FEEL, etc….And while you’re at it, read their biography, these give so many clues!
- Robert Henri – The Art Spirit (book) This has become close to an Art Bible for me. It never ceases to inspire.
- Just start painting! Even if it is a color chart, it is in DOING that one learns the most. And believe me, I’ve got lots of color charts! and sometimes I just play with my palettes, designing new color schemes, etc. See some of my crazy charts and art supplies here..
YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY
- When I started getting disappointed in some art books I ordered, I made a decision to visit my local library. Wow! (My sister is a proud public librarian and had been bugging me for years to do my research there. Thanks, Sis.)
- Head for the 750’s, and just browse everything there. I take away as many as I can possibly carry, art books are heavy.
- Look for How-To books, books about artists, books full of art, just anything. I’ve looked up rubber stamping, and rug painting, and you name it. But the 700’s are my special “home” at the library.
- Look up ANY book you are interested in, even if it is NOT in your local library. It’s called SuperSearch….login to your local library and put in a request. Then you just wait.
ONLINE LEARNING
- As mentioned on my About color page, a fabulous little FREE e-course on color theory (10-color wheel) at http://howtobeachildrensbookillustrator.wordpress.com/free-color-mastery/
- Will update this, but help me out if you know some great links. thanx.

- Different Strokes From Different Folks – the amazing Karin Jurick features this weekly come-join-the-fun everyone paint the same pic in their own unique style and post it.
- I’ll try to update this…but please comment below for additional places to get involved in learning.

Hi
just been having a look through your site – love the paintings and have been checking out some of your resources – already knew about Robert Burridge and do have some old issues of the palette magazine which I bought from ebay a few years ago – will have to order some more – it’s just the cost of postage to England that costs so much!
