The process:
Began with white gessoed 140lb cold-pressed watercolor paper, drew a design with a metallic marker. Added brightly colored gouache (took out some of my designer gouache – a bit different from artists gouache) and it was quite garish. Then after that was dry, I painted a thick layer of india ink on that, let that dry, then held it under the kitchen faucet and rubbed off much of the ink. The results are always unpredictable, but what I like much about this method is the “printerly” quality of the final painting.
Got so excited with this that I created a series…..I’ll post that tomorrow. Varnish is drying for now.
